About the Class
The *Early Bird Registration* excludes the Registration Fee applied to each session. The Recital* and costume fee is conveniently included in the SPRING Tuition. *The Academy is closed during April Vacation. This class is invited to perform in our 18th Annual Recital, "The JOY Of Dance!", near the end of our Spring Session, on Sunday, June 7th, 2020 at the BU Theatre, Boston. ***Please see our "Calendar of Events" for all rehearsals and "SAVE THE DATES!"** Previous experience in Ballet and/or Tap is recommended for this level.
An excellent base for the Academy's Ballet I and Tap I classes.
This Class is perfect for the little dancer who wants to learn and reinforce the basics of Ballet. We divide the class time for each genre. We begin with Ballet because it is the best way to "warm" the body and prepare for the entire class. The students are introduced to the Barre and perform basic technique and balance drills. The Ballet techniques reinforced include: 1st position, 2nd position, plie`, chasse`, passe`, tandu, arabesque`, soute` and more. Basic por des bras (arm movements and positions) is reinforced and refined. This class is very active and interactive allowing the dancer to learn at their own level while nurturing the organic, creative part of each young dancer in the room.
The Tap portion begins 30 to 40 minutes into the class but moves quickly into active learning as the students are physically warmed and eager to move about the room. Techniques are reinforced while "sound" becomes more important while we "listen" more to the music and introduce "musicality" and dancing with the music. The Tap techniques reinforced include:
heel drops, dig heels, toe tap, brush, spank, tips, toes, leap toe, chasse`, shuffle and more.
CHILDREN'S LEVEL: We move through these techniques and forms steadily throughout the Session and Dance Year adding more locomotion and continue combining techniques, forms and steps to reinforce the feel of "choreography", staying within the ability of the ages in the room.
SPRING FOCUS: The dancer continues to work on basic positions with added attention to detail, refining technique, around-the-room exercises, warm-up & stretching regime, partnering and group skills and "Line Leader" opportunities. We begin to put steps together that form combinations, form a series of combinations leading to "choreography". We are working toward a Dance during the SPRING Session.
