Mary Garcia

A Walnut Hill alumna, Miss Garcia studied at North Carolina School of the Arts, and with the Ballet Chicago Studio Company before founding The University Ballet of Chicago, where she lead as Artistic Director for three years. After leaving Chicago, she took on the role of Assistant Director at Atlantic Ballet Company, where her students went on to study at Boston Ballet and American Ballet Theater. Through the years, Miss Garcia has studied with numerous masters of the dance world including Brenda Daniels; American Ballet Theater's Michael Owen; Joffrey Ballet and Alvin Ailey's Sara Yarborough; New York City Ballet's Daniel Duell; and Boston Ballet's Tamara King, Samuel Kurkjian, Arthur Leeth, and Chris Anderson. Miss Garcia has trained in various techniques from Vagonova to Balanchine, and Ailey to Taylor, and her staging and choreography experience includes original and classical works for several dance and theater companies. Before leaving the stage to focus on teaching, she performed in nearly thirty productions, dancing solo roles in many classical ballets and contemporary works. Mary received her workout instructor certification from The New York City Ballet in 2006, becoming the only NYCB Workout instructor to offer classes in the Greater-Boston area.
